It was approaching the end of the school year in the spring of 2017. I was working as a Para Professional for the School District of San Francisco and had been working in that position for a year. Prior to that, since I moving to San Francisco I have worked a total of 8 jobs in 3 years. I had bounced around trying to find an income that would keep my head above water while living on my own for the first time and it didn’t help that I was living in one of the most expensive cities in the world. There was a low point where I accepted a job to work overnight shifts at a warehouse. It was a nightmare. I felt it was a place where people went to die. I worked as a prep cook, for a delivery service, Uber, Lyft, after school program and ended up as a Para Professional. I thought I was in a good place until I had a talk with one of my mentors who's been in tech sales for over 10 years. I admired everything he had, his family, his house which he owned and the house next door, able to work remotely and spend a lot of time with his kids. In short, I wanted what he had, I just had no idea how to get there. It wasn’t until we were having a conversation about my career and goals that I wanted to achieve and he introduced me to the Always Hired Tech Sales Bootcamp. His nephew recently went through the program and started his new job at yelp just a few weeks after graduating. I was all in, and went through the interview process and finished the boot camp a month after the school year was over. It took me about a month and a half to find the right job. But there is no doubt in my mind that I landed in the right place and I am now working at Reciprocity Inc. here in San Francisco and am the 4th SDR on the team and I am living the dream! I had no prior sales experience and was afraid that it wasn’t going to work out for me.
